AT THE HEART OF INFOTAINMENT

Case Studies

C&CE's Professional Services Division has a long and distinguished track-record of working with many of the giants of the automotive industry, including vehicle manufacturers, audio-visual set makers, mobile communications and navigation product manufacturers, and has received many testimonials for the quality and performance of its products and services.

The following brief summaries represent a small selection of the projects we have completed during our many years of serving the automotive industry:

  Carmaker Cross-Platform System Implementation

C&CE provided a full range of services to Jaguar during the development of their cross-platform D2B Optical Multimedia Communication System, currently employed in the X-Type, S-Type and the XJ6 (launched in September 2002).

Services delivered included requirements capture, system design, protocol development, training, on-site support and systems integration and validation of D2B system devices from a wide range of Tier-1 set makers.

The project was a great success and resulted in Jaguar being able to offer a seemingly impossibly complex array of networking options to its customers, using just 6 Mbps of networking bandwidth, thanks to the highly optimised design and unique D2B attributes.

In 2002, C&C's engineers were awarded the coveted European Technical Achievement Award by Ford Motor Company for their work on this system.

Satellite Receiver Software and Emulator Development

In this project, a large American set maker had been commissioned by a carmaker to supply a satellite radio receiver into the US market, employing D2B Optical technology to communicate with a head-unit from a European vendor.

C&CE was able to solve a number of potential problems by firstly, developing a full-custom emulator of both the satellite receiver and the head-unit very early in the project, well in advance of actual hardware availability, and secondly, by providing a proven network management protocol stack implementation that would assure interoperability with existing system components. C&CE's tools were used in both hardware and software development as well as production test environments.

Early availability of the emulators allowed application development to progress independently of the 3rd party hardware and by providing a full integration support service; C&CE was able to bring full network protocol compliance to the satellite receiver software within a few weeks.

Additionally, C&CE's project team provided local support for the US development team, working directly with their European partners in project management, design consultancy and systems integration roles.

Navigation System Interface Development

This project, for a large Japanese set maker, included the bespoke development of a hardware interface and embedded software to integrate D2B Optical networking into the design of a Navigation Computer to send audio and TV control commands over the D2B Optical Network.
