AT THE HEART OF INFOTAINMENT

Networking Benefits

D2B/SMARTwireX is the technology of choice for car manufacturers that want to offer Infotainment systems in large volume car production because it is low cost, future proof, straightforward to implement and based on mature technology.

D2B/SMARTwireX is an Interface standard specifying interconnections between Infotainment devices facilitating interoperability at various levels.

  • Significant cost reduction compared to hybrid systems used in the volume market today (e.g. CAN+analog audio)
  • Reduction in complexity and weight of Infotainment wiring harness by eliminating screened audio cables and reducing UTP cable count.
  • Ability to deliver premium features such as front/rear split audio and multi-source/destination video (e.g. DVD/TV)
  • Keeps infotainment system future-proof by simplifying replacement or addition of additional modules
  • Ability to flexibly locate each module in the optimum position within the car
  • Compatible with mass production manufacturing methods, needing no special skills/tools for assembly, service and repair, hence reducing warranty and maintenance costs
  • Proven to meet automotive EMC requirements using unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cables
  • Based on award winning D2B technology and supported by a full complement of software stacks, development, test and validation tools to provide a low risk route to market

D2B/SMARTwireX is a second-generation automotive infotainment networking protocol developed by C&CE to deliver higher performance than legacy systems such as D2B Optical and MOST. It is based on knowledge gained through the implementation of the same technology in premium vehicles and for volume manufacturers; this means the cost and time for additional R&D has already been invested.
